Brigadier General (Retired) Taner SAĞIROĞLU served with the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) for 31 years. He participated in numerous multinational and NATO operations and lectured on intelligence, operational art and strategy at TAF Colleges. He served in Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) for six years, represented SHAPE at forums including the Belgium Inter-ministerial Administration (CIPS) and gave lectures on NATO Intelligence at NATO School and Belgian Intelligence School. General SAĞIROĞLU was Director of Management of SHAPE between 2016-2019. He retired from TAF in 2021 while holding the position of Director of Strategy at the Turkish General Staff. He was National Policy Director, Turkey between 2019-2021 and represented Turkey at NATO. He has master’s degrees from Turkish War Colleges, KU Leuven University and NDU Pakistan. He is both a practitioner and a student of operational art, defence strategy, defence policy and planning, capability development and the integration of the defence industry. He is a PhD candidate at Yıldız Technical University.
